Changing the air filter is a quick and easy maintenance item
that should be performed at least every 40,000 miles or every
two years on the GTI
VR6. Anyone can change an air filter.

| 1.
| Open the hood. Find the airbox as shown in the picture.

| 2.
| Use the phillips screwdriver to unscrew the hose clamp
indicated by the yellow arrow. Gently pull the hose off.

| 3.
| Unplug the wire connector from the MAF (mass airflow sensor)
indicated by the green arrow.

| 4.
| Unclasp the MAF from the airbox. Use your fingers to
unhook the two clamps pointed at by the blue arrows.

| Unclasp the top of the airbox. Use your fingers to
unhook the two clamps pointed at by the red arrows.

| 5.
| You should now be able to wiggle the MAF out of the airbox.
Wiggle the top of the airbox off and separate from the bottom.

| 6.
| With the airbox top removed, you should see the filter. Lift
the filter out. Replace.
|

| 7.
| Reverse steps 5 through 1 to reinstall the airbox. Done!
